No wonder why many tourists visit this city to see and experience first-hand those trending places and things to do that they see in social media.

I’ve been to Seoul thrice already and I would like to share with you the 10 must see and do things in Seoul, South Korea if it is your first time.

1. Wear Hanbok

Gyeongbokgung Palace

Hanbok is traditional South Korean attire. In the past, this attire is what Koreans wear on their day to day lives. Today, it is now only being worn during festive and special occasions such as festivals, birthdays and weddings. Hanbok design is usually represented by vibrant colors, laces and embroideries.

Hanbok

Tourist in Seoul can experience wearing a Hanbok even without a special occasion. Various Hanbok rental shops are available around the city and it will only cost you as low as 10,000 won for a 1.5 hour use. One of the places where you can rent a Hanbok is at Hanboknam which is located in the neighborhood of Bukchon Hanok Village and just outside Gyeongbokgung Palace. These two sites are perfect backdrop for your photos wearing the traditional Korean attire. It will make you feel like you were transported to the olden times of Korea.

You can get a free Hanbok rental at Hanboknam using a Discover Seoul Pass. All you have to do is present the card at the shop.

2. Gyeongbokgung Palace

Gyeongbokgung Palace

Gyeongbokgung Palace is the biggest among the five palaces in Seoul. It is also referred as the Northern Palace because of its location. Built in 1395, Gyeongbokgung features Joseon Dynasty type of architecture and considered as the most beautiful among the five remaining palaces around Seoul.

South Korea Itinerary

If you want to see traditional Korean houses called “hanok”, Bukchon Hanok Village is the place to visit. The village is home to hundreds of traditional houses that dates back to Jeoson Dynasty. Most of these houses still has residents that’s why it’s important to respect their privacy and stay silent during your visit. Some of the houses around the village were converted to cultural center, restaurants, and shops for more immersive experience. Admission to Bukchon Hanok Village is free.

I visited Seoul last year during the peak of their autumn season and it was truly a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to see autumn foliage, and South Korea did not disappoint me. I thought of writing this post because I get a lot of inquiries on how to get to Nami Island, one of the best place to visit in South Korea during autumn season.

My friends and I visited South Korea during the end of October when the autumn foliage was at it’s best. We visited several sites around Seoul but Nami Island in Chuncheon won our hearts.

Namiseom Island or Nami Island is a small island located north-east of Seoul. It is popular because of its tree-lined road which produce a very picturesque scene specially during autumn. Nami Island has also become even more popular because of the hit Korean Drama in 2002, Winter Sonata.

The island is located 63km north-east of Seoul and can be access through various public transportation. We opted to visit Nami Island by train because we weren’t able book the shuttle bus in advanced. The train journey will require you transfer to different lines. You then need to take a bus or taxi going to the ferry terminal that will lead to Nami Island. The entrance fee to Nami Island for adults is 10,000 won, which already includes a round trip ferry ride.

While on board the ferry, you will be able to see the autumn foliage of Nami Island already. A sea of green, brown, yellow, red and orange leaves will welcome you and feels very magical. We never wasted time and took hundreds of photos.

It was my first time to dress up for autumn and I came really prepared. Temperature during autumn in South Korea has an average of 10 degrees Celsius, so wearing layers of clothing that will keep you warm is really important. I’m glad that even though we don’t have cold seasons in the Philippines, some international brands still sell outerwear.

It’s always my dream to wear a trench coat and it finally happened in South Korea. This black wool trench coat really kept me warm. I was also wearing a pullover and a polo shirt underneath, yes, that’s three-layers of clothing. This outfit really kept me warm through out the day. Nami Island also involves a lot of walking, so wearing comfortable shoes is must.

You can read more about these destinations in Seoul on my 3 Day Seoul Itinerary post.

The outfit I wore for our 3rd day in Seoul is actually planned for Dongdaemun Design Plaza. I want an edgy outfit that will match its modern and neofuturistic architecture. It was 28 degrees during that day so wearing a jacket was a little inappropriate. I still brought it though and wore it for the shoot, ahaha. I also took a couple of OOTD photos along Cheonggyecheon Stream because the place is also has a couple of beautiful spots for photos.

I’ve been dying to buy this olive green bomber jacket from Memo but it was too expensive, good thing it went on sale and I bought it right away. I also like the nylon material it was made of because it can repel water, perfect for the rainy days, and it’s light weight too. I also wore a long line tee and a worn-out cropped pants to make the look edgy and grungy. I finished the look with a military green fedora hat, a pair of sunglasses with flash lens and a comfy white sneakers.

For this day’s look, I went for pastel colors which is very popular in Asian countries like Japan and South Korea during summer. Since it’s warm, the pastel colors are not heavy in the eyes and it makes you look fresh. Our itinerary for that day involves a lot of walking that’s why I decided to wear my comfy Flossy slip ons. I also wore my favorite New Era 9Fifty Snapback to protect my head from the heat of the sun.

Seoul-Searching https://countocram.com/2016/07/26/seoul-searching/ https://countocram.com/2016/07/26/seoul-searching/#respond Tue, 26 Jul 2016 05:28:42 +0000 http://countocram.com/?p=1282 Continue reading "Seoul-Searching"]]> If you’ve been following my posts, I already completed my 3 Day Seoul, South Korea Itinerary and I really enjoyed writing that one since all the information regarding my recent trip to Seoul are still fresh. So if you are planning for a trip to Seoul, South Korea soon, do check it out.

I realized that travel blogging is quite difficult because you need to be detailed as much as possible. As an avid traveler, whenever I plan a trip, I always do a research about the places to visit, how to get there, where and what to eat, and things to experience.

As a fashion blogger, planning my outfits for a trip is very challenging because I always carefully think what to wear. It is also hard for me to travel lite because I always end up packing extra sets of clothing for “just in case” scenario. I do enjoy putting up an outfit on what to wear on day 1, day 2, day 3 or on a particular location. I always make sure that the outfit I’m wearing is weather and location appropriate, and of course comfortable.

I was invited by AirAsia Philippines to experience summer in South Korea together with Cebu’s local media and social media influencers. I carefully planned my outfits because I know how fashionable Koreans are. It’s funny because I started by sketching the looks I wanted to put up because my clothes were still in the laundry. As soon as I got my laundry, I immediately started mixing and matching and started packing.

Since it’s summer in South Korea, I didn’t really worry much because I know I can just wear the clothes that I normally wear here in the Philippines. But just to be sure that I’m bringing the right clothing, I checked the weather in Seoul from time to time before the trip. The temperature in Seoul was predicted to be at 28-30 degrees in the morning to afternoon and drops to 18-20 degrees at night to early morning.

It was already evening when we arrived in Seoul and it was 18 degrees, good thing I was wearing a cover up that kept me warm.

Seoul-Searching

I really love the color scheme of this airport outfit look that I put up. The combination of tan and olive colors are very manly and pleasing in the eyes. Since I can’t fit my straw hat in my luggage because it will get deformed, I decided to come up with a look that is suitable wearing it.

Seoul-Searching

I used my JanSport Watchtower backpack for my carry on luggage. As what I’ve mentioned on my School Boy post, this bag is perfect for traveling. The small compartments of the bag are perfect for your phone, wallet, passport and small items that needs easy access. The main compartment can also store some clothing and items that you need to access during the flight.

We were greeted by our guide as soon as we got out at the arrival hall of Incheon International Airport. She knows that we were really hungry because of flight delay so she brought us to a restaurant in the airport serving Bibimbap. I really like the interior of the restaurant because it matches my outfit, ahah! It’s also nice to finally taste the authentic Bibimbap of South Korea.

The reason behind this is probably because of the growing influence of Korean dramas and K-Pop to us. Filipinos are becoming more aware of about the Korean culture because of these media. The growing numbers of Korean tourists and students learning English in the Philippines also help us appreciate their cultures even more.

I personally like the Korean culture, specially when it comes to fashion, I watched several Korean Dramas like Princess Hours, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho and My Love from the Stars, and listened to the music of 2NE1 and EXO.

I’ve visited South Korea twice already, first was during the autumn of 2015 and the most recent was just few weeks ago during their summer when I was invited to a Seoul, South Korea, FamTour by AirAsia Philippines.

South Korea is pretty accessible to Filipinos, it only takes a 4 hour flight from Cebu, and the number of flights servicing Cebu to Incheon, South Korea route are also growing.

Since I already visited South Korea twice, I thought of sharing some tips and a sample 3 day itinerary to Seoul that you can use as a guide.

South Korea Travel Tips

  • Filipinos are required to get Korean Visa, it’s free when you apply personally at the Consulate Office of Korea in Cebu Business Park. You can check the requirements here.
  • Buy Won while you’re still in Cebu. I bought mine at Core Pacific Money Exchange at the 4th Level of Ayala Center Cebu.
  • Check the weather to make sure you are bringing the right outfit and don’t forget those comfy walking shoes.
  • Book through Airbnb for cheaper accommodation, some even provide free pocket WiFi and T-Money cards.
  • If you’re in a group, sometimes it’s cheaper to ride a taxi instead of taking the train depending on your destination. Taxi’s in South Korea can fit up to 4 passengers.
  • Don’t forget to try Banana Milk, it’s really addicting and if you are planning to bring home as “pasalubong”, you can buy at Food Empire in Incheon International Airport to prevent spillage in your check-in luggage.

One of the notable areas in DPP is the LED Rose Garden. The garden features 25,550 electronic roses to celebrate the 70th year of Gwangbok-Jeol, Korea’s version of Independence Day. The roses also light as soon as it gets dark. Take note that daylight is longer in South Korea during summer, I waited until 8pm for the roses to light and the wait is worth it.
