A Short Trip to Kuala Lumpur + Santan Food Festival https://countocram.com/2017/06/05/short-trip-to-kuala-lumpur/ https://countocram.com/2017/06/05/short-trip-to-kuala-lumpur/#comments Sun, 04 Jun 2017 23:59:58 +0000 http://countocram.com/?p=2404 Continue reading "A Short Trip to Kuala Lumpur + Santan Food Festival"]]> I recently went to Malaysia to attend the biggest inflight food tasting event in Asia, the AirAsia Santan Food Festival. It was supposed to be an overnight trip only but I requested to fly-in a day before the event so that I can explore Kuala Lumpur and see for the second time my favorite twin buildings in the world, the Petronas Twin Towers.

How to get to KL Sentral from KLIA2

The first time I was in Malaysia, I took the KLIA Ekspres to get to KL Sentral from KLIA2, and that cost me RM55 (Php600) per way which is quite expensive. But if you’re in a rush, the travel time between the two terminals is only 30 minutes with one stop to KLIA.

On my second visit, I decided to take the Skybus from KLIA2 to KL Sentral and it only cost me RM12 (Php140) per way. It’s a non-stop bus service between the two terminals, and the ride took about 40 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the traffic. The bus is comfortable and the air-conditioning is very cold. You can also store your big luggage in the bus compartment. This is probably the cheapest way to get from KLIA to Kuala Lumpur.

Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur?

Airbnb is always on top of my list whenever I’m booking a place for my travels. The reason is because there are many affordable choices, listings are better than a hotel, and some offers the best views in the world, just like what I found in KL.

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur

I booked a room in Regalia Residence and it only cost me Php1,192 for a night stay. The building is centrally located and only a short walk from Sunway Putra Mall and Putra and PWTC stations. What I’m really after in booking the place is the view from their sky pool on the 37th floor, and it did not disappoint. You will see the beautiful Kuala Lumpur’s skyline from the sky pool and that includes the Petronas Twin Towers and KL Tower. The sky pool is only accessible to guests, and you can’t go up without a key card.

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur

My room in regalia residences is very spacious and has its own toilet and bath. The floor-to-ceiling windows also have a view of the Petronas Twin Towers.

Save as much as $40 when you register and book your place on Airbnb using my link.

What to do in Kuala Lumpur?

Suria KLCC

Suria KLCC
Suria KLCC

After I settled in Regalia Residences and took some photos from the sky pool. I went to Suria KLCC, one of the largest shopping malls in Malaysia. Suria KLCC is a mall complex built at the feet of Petronas Twin Towers. The mall has a mixture of lifestyle stores, cafes, restaurants, as well as high-end luxury labels. Suria KLCC also features a philharmonic theater, an underwater aquarium and a science center.

KLCC Park

Just right outside Suria KLCC is the KLCC Park which was built to provide greenery to Petronas Twin Towers. It is also a public park where families can enjoy picnic, playgrounds and the free public swimming pool. KLCC Park also offers some of the best views of the Petronas Twin Towers.

Petronas Twin Towers

Petronas Twin Towers

The Petronas Twin Towers are my favorite twin towers in the world. These two buildings were the tallest in the world from 1998 to 2004 but still remains as the tallest twin towers. The architectural design of the towers is based on Islamic geometric forms which describe an important Islamic principle of unity within unity, harmony, stability and rationality. The Petronas Twin Towers are really fascinating to look at day or night. Visitors can also go up to the viewing floor of the building for RM85 (Adult), RM35 (Child) and RM45 (Senior Citizen).

Petronas Twin Towers

Here’s a tip, take a photo in front of Menara Public Bank just across the intersection to avoid the crowd. You will also get a full view of the twin towers.

Jalan Alor

Jalan Alor

Jalan Alor

Jalan Alor is a must visit food street in the heart of Kuala Lumpur which is very popular to both locals and foreign tourists. The street come alive at night with several food stalls offering local Malaysian cuisines. Some of the dishes I tried are Mie Goreng, Chicken Satay and Buttered Prawns. I wanted to try more but I was already full.

Jalan Alor is only a short walk from AirAsia-Bukit Bintang and Imbi Monorail Stations.

Santan Food Festival

On my 2nd day in Malaysia, I went back to KLIA2 for the Santan Food Festival. This is the biggest inflight food tasting event in Asia which has been attended by bloggers, media, and key influencers from the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, Myanmar, Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, India and Australia.

Santan Food Festival

Santan Food Festival

The event featured a cooking demo, flat lay contest, entertainment and of course, sampling of AirAsia’s Santan Hot Meals. You can read more about Santan Food Festival on my food blog, LamiKaayo.com.

Sample Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Itinerary

Here’s a suggested itinerary if you have a day to spare in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

  1. National Mosque of Malaysia (Masjid Negara)
  2. Merdeka Square
  3. Suria KLCC
  4. Nando’s (lunch)
  5. KLCC Park
  6. Petronas Twin Towers
  7. Heli Pad Lounge (sunset cocktails)
  8. Jalan Jalor (dinner)

I had a short but an enjoyable trip to Kuala Lumpur. I was supposed to visit more places during my first day but I got really tired because of lack of sleep. I will definitely go back to explore more places, and go up to the viewing deck of the Petronas Twin Towers.

Thank you AirAsia for this wonderful experience.

I always want to make sure that I’m bringing the right clothes for certain activity or destination. Planning our outfits for travel helps us pack light, but more often than not, I always end up bringing an extra set of clothing, I think it’s a mentality that is really hard to escape when you are a style blogger. I always end up bringing extra sets of clothes for “what if” scenarios.

During my recent travel to Palawan, our tour itinerary was given ahead of time that’s why I was able to plan what to wear. Part of our itinerary was a tour around Ai World Resort. I decided to wear a mandarin collared shirt because it has a more resort feel to it. I then paired it with a red jersey shorts and some summer must-have accessories. I also brought a tote bag to carry my summer essentials. I love using a tote bag because I can put a lot of stuff in it and I can also easily access them.

The resort occupies 26 hectares of the 100 hectare property surrounded with lush forest, colorful flowers, and a gorgeous view of the mountains.

Ai World Palawan

Ai World Palawan

Guests who want to spend the night at Ai World Resort can stay at Silverhill Villas. They currently have 15 rooms available fully equipped with amenities you would normally find in other resorts, except their beds are embedded with “Jikitan”, a super carbon which helps prevent oxidization and maintain a healthy body. The rooms also have a therapeutic tub which helps in relaxation after a long day.

Ai World Palawan

What I love about the rooms is the veranda which gives guests an amazing view of the forest and mountain. It’s a perfect spot to watch the sunrise and sunset. Since Ai World just recently opened, telephone lines and WiFi are not yet available.

Ai World Resort has 4 swimming pools spread out around the property. The Lac De Montagne is a mountain lake pool which features panoramic view of the forest and the mountain surrounding the property. This pool is also equipped with lounge beds that are perfect for sunbathing or by simply relaxing. The Kiddie Pool and the La Chambre are perfect for the little ones because these are shallow pools. Kids will also enjoy the slides and fountain built on these swimming pools. Ai World also has an exclusive swimming pool for in-house guests. This one is unique because like the beds in the villas, it is embedded with “Jikitan” which is good for the body.

Ai World also has a Food Complex which is a food court type of dining facility. The stalls offer Filipino, and Japanese dishes, drinks, and desserts. This is also where the live entertainment takes place every weekend. Food in the restaurants are really good and very affordable.

Ai World Resort in Palawan really exceeded my expectation- awesome view, relaxing accommodation, fun amenities and entertainment, delicious food, and warm staff. I’m really excited for the future developments happening with the resort, and hopefully I can visit again in the future.

I was really glad that AirAsia decided to include Palawan on their list of flight expansion from Cebu because it is one my favorite destinations in the Philippines. Now we have more options to reach one of the World’s Best Islands.

The trip was actually my 6th visit to Palawan already, but the “Philippines’ Last Frontier” has a lot to offer, making every visit exciting and memorable. When I received our tour itinerary, I was really happy because I’ve never been to the places included on the list. I took the inaugural flight of AirAsia from Cebu to Puerto Princesa City, Palawan together with my fellow bloggers Edd, Sophia, Migs, Ram, and Sinjin, news paper writers, Ehda, Jeandie, and Victor, and PR Works representative Jessa.

AirAsia in Palawan

Our flight to Puerto Princesa was scheduled during dinner time, good thing AirAsia serves the best Asian meals on board at a very affordable price. I had a Thai Green Curry with Rice, which is very popular in Thailand. The dish is very aromatic, and you can really taste the spices used to prepare this dish. Next time you fly with AirAsia, check out Santan, their inflight menu, for a list of meals, snacks and drink available on board.

After staying at Ai World Resort for 2 nights we went to Blue Palawan because we still have a couple of hours to spare before our flight back to Cebu. Blue Palawan is located just near the city center and airport. It is popular for various kinds of watersports activities like kite surfing, kayaking, and standup paddle boarding. We did a quick kayaking to a nearby mangrove tunnel and that experience was amazing! It was my first time to kayak that far, and I’m glad I survived it. We then had lunch, and then chilled by the pool over some cocktails and craft beer while waiting for our flight.

Two days may seem short to explore Palawan but this experience is truly unique because I got to visit new places, experience new things and most importantly, met new friends. Thank you AirAsia for this wonderful experience.
